Chemistry
The Kratos Supra XPS was commissioned at Sheffield University in the summer of 2016. It is equipped with a monochromatic aluminium X-ray source used for both spectroscopy and chemical imaging. XPS spectra can be collected from areas 700 µm by 300 µm down to 15 µm diameter. The chemical imaging is typically 3 µm resolution with an image size of 400 µm by 400 µm being usual, although by stitching images together post acquisition it is possible to image an are up to 8 mm by 8 mm . There is also a gas cluster ion source suitable for depth profiling or sample cleaning, with the larger argon clusters at low voltages being especially suitable for cleaning organic materials prior to ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy. In addition the system is equipped with a UPS source, and hot and cold stages in both the sample entry chamber and the analysis chamber.
